THANK YOU Obama Santa Cruz
Indiana and North Carolina - A Tipping Point
Days after Barack Obama's commanding victory in North Carolina and tight finish in Indiana, a net gain of 13 delegates resulted from these two races and 225,000 votes. Additionally, four superdelegates endorsed Barack Obama on Wednesday and Thursday. Endoresements received included: North Carolina Congressman Brad Miller, Washington Congressman Rick Larsen, North Carolina DNC member Jeanette Council and California DNC member Inola Henry
The movement of Democratic superdelegates to Barack Obama gained steam Friday, with endorsements expected from two more congressmen. Obama spokesman Dan Pfeiffer said the Illinois senator plans to receive the endorsement of Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon an event Friday in his home state. Oregon holds it's primary on May 20
While polling in the Oregon has been sparse, Obama is believed to hold a significant advantage over New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. With DeFazio, he will have the endorsement of three of the state's four Democratic House members. Reps. Earl Blumenauer and David Wu earlier endorsed Obama, while Gov. Ted Kulongoski and Rep. Darlene Hooley have endorsed Clinton
Donald Payne, New Jersey congressman who had been backing Clinton for the nomination-is switching his support to Obama, Pfeiffer confirmed
These endorsements brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Obama to 263. Senator Obama is 165 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.
Barack has already won more votes, more delegates, and more than twice as many states as Senator Clinton, whose path to the nomination has grown extremely narrow.
There are only six contests remaining on the Democratic primary calendar and only 217 pledged delegates left to be awarded. Only 7% of the pledged delegates remain on the table. There are 248 remaining undeclared superdelegates, for a total of 465 delegates left to be awarded
With North Carolina and Indiana complete, Barack Obama only needs 165 total delegates to capture the Democratic nomination. This is only 34% of the total remaining delegates
Conversely, Senator Clinton needs 326 delegates to reach the Democratic nomination, which represents a startling 69% of the remaining delegates
The Obama campaign estimates that after the Oregon and Kentucky primaries on May 20th, we will have won a majority of the overall pledged delegates. We want to be clear -- we believe that the winner of a majority of pledged delegates will be and should be the nominee of our party

Successful "drive-by" event held on West Cliff in Santa Cruz
June 16, 2007
15 Obama Santa Cruz volunteers inspired the motorists, cyclists, skateboarders and walkers on beautiful West Cliff Drive for 3 hours. The group held up a new set of "burma shave" messages that clearly communicated the reasons that Barack can make a difference in changing the course of our country. Dozens of cars and people stopped for free bumper stickers and to see how they could support our local effort with time and donations.

This Saturday, the Obama campaign is launching Vote for Change, an unprecedented 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive. In one day more than 100 events will be held across the country, with at least one event in every single state.
The events this Saturday will kick-off of a six-month voter registration drive that could reshape the electoral map. If more Americans get involved, get registered and show up to vote, we can change Washington this November.
Recent voter registration drives have registered more than 200,000 new Democrats in Pennsylvania, more than 165,000 new Democrats in North Carolina, and more than 150,000 new Democrats in Indiana. Those numbers just scratch the surface of what's possible.
Santa Cruz Voter Registration Drive - May 10th
We will be setting up a voter registration and information table Safeway on 41st Avenue (Soquel, CA)
Volunteers are needed each day to staff the table and answer questions. The events will run from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm so hopefully people can offer 2-3 hours of their time. Great opportunity to get involved in a local civic event
Date: Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 AM
Location: Safeway, 2720 41st Avenue, Soquel, CA 95073
